Iranian lashed 74 times for 'insult' to Ahmadinejad

An Iranian student activist has been lashed 74 times for insulting President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

, a political science student at Tehran University, was sentenced in March 2010 to a year in prison after being convicted of propaganda against the regime of speaking to foreign media.

Aref, who was arrested following the disputed presidential elections in Iran in 2009, was also sentenced to 74 lashes for writing an "insulting" letter to Ahmadinejad and given the lifetime ban from exercising journalism or membership of a political party.

A masked prison guard carried out the lashing in presence of Aref woman and Iranian judiciary officials. News referral came just weeks after Somayeh Tohidlou, Iranian blogger and activist, former presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, was sentenced to a "symbolic" lashing for the same crime.


College students and the students who had criticized the government were given to three "penalty points", according to the potential threat was said. Aref was one of the "favorites" of three graduate students who are not allowed to continue their studies. About 150 were crushed.
